Understanding the Cortex
The cortex is a crucial part of the brain that plays a significant role in various cognitive functions, including perception, memory, attention, and language. It is the outermost layer of the brain and is responsible for higher-level thinking and complex mental processes.
The cortex is divided into two hemispheres, the left and right, which are connected by a bundle of nerve fibers called the corpus callosum. Each hemisphere is further divided into four lobes: the frontal lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe, and occipital lobe.
